About Dolio
Last updated
Dolio is a free expense-splitting app for friends, roommates, and travel groups: track shared costs, see who owes whom, and settle up in seconds. It runs on the web, iOS, and Android, and the free plan has unlimited groups and expenses.
Who builds it
Dolio is built and operated by CodeNomad (KvK 95085270), a small independent studio in the Netherlands. There is no growth team and no content agency: the same people who write the code write these pages, and the same person answers support@dolio.org.
How it is funded
No plan shows advertising. Dolio is funded by the optional Pro plan (€2.49/month), which adds receipt scanning and analytics. Nothing on this site is sponsored, and no comparison page carries affiliate links to the apps it compares.
How comparison pages are verified
Every comparison resolves its table against a shared facts database rather than copy written for the page, so the same claim about a competitor reads identically wherever it appears. The rules:
- Primary sources only. A competitor claim is sourced from that company’s own pricing page, help centre, terms, store listing, official repository or app — never from another blog’s comparison. If no primary source states a fact, the cell stays empty rather than guessed.
- Every cell is dated. Each value shows when it was last verified and links to its source. Claims are re-verified before the page they appear on is published, and stale claims are flagged for re-checking rather than left to age quietly.
- Dolio’s own column comes from the same source of truth that drives the pricing section and the app itself. When a competitor is better on a row, the row says so; each page has a “where they win” section that is not optional.
- Corrections are logged. A change log on each comparison records what changed and when. Found something wrong? Email support@dolio.org with a source and it will be re-verified and corrected in the open.
How calculators and research are verified
The calculators use the same arithmetic the app ships (integer minor units, remainder reconciliation), and each one is checked against an independent implementation with tens of thousands of generated cases before it goes live. Where a guide or research page states a number — how often a settlement algorithm hits the true minimum, how much exchange-rate timing moves a trip total — the script that produced it is committed alongside the article and can be re-run.
What we will not do
- Invent statistics, user quotes, reviews or hands-on experience.
- Claim “no signup” without saying whose signup is unnecessary (group creators sign in; ghost participants never do).
- Publish a page that adds nothing beyond what already ranks for the same question.
